Know Your Numbers and Understand Your Risk for Heart Disease
--Jan. 26, 2009
Mercy Health Partners is sponsoring a series of educational programs in February across East Tennessee that will help you understand your risk for heart disease.
During the February Heart Month celebration, the Know Your Numbers educational programs will provide cholesterol screening and a featured speaker to help you understand the facts about cholesterol for a heart-healthy lifestyle.
The screening is a fingerpick specimen collection with results available in five to seven minutes. The results provide a cholesterol panel and glucose reading and require an eight-hour fasting period. People taking the blood test should follow their normal medicine(s) schedule, and diabetics should check with their physician before fasting.
To register for any of the Know Your Numbers programs, call the Ask Mercy physician referral and service line at 632-5200 (toll-free at 877-368-7362). Registration is also available online at www.mercy.com and following the links for classes and events.

Individuals unable to attend any of the Know Your Numbers programs can learn more about their risk of heart disease by using the HEARTaware assessment tool on the MHP Web site, www.mercy.com. HEARTaware is a seven-minute cardiac risk test that will identify any risk factors a person might have.
Those with two or more risk factors from the HEARTaware test can request a free screening by a Mercy cardiac clinician.
