Pat Medley Honored as Mercy Woman of the Year

--May 19, 2009

Mercy Health Partners President and CEO Debra London announced that the Pat Medley has been honored as the first Mercy Woman of the Year.
The presentation was made at the announcement of the Mercy Wellnesse for Women program, a new initiative to deliver quality, seamless, integrated healthcare to women and their families.
“Pat is a wonderful person who has performed many hours of community service while in elected office and as a leader in the local school system,” London said.  “She is a great selection for our inaugural Women of the Year award as she personally embodies the Mercy mission and core values in all aspects of her life.”
In presenting the award, London listed many of Medley’s community activities including her many years as an English and foreign language teacher at Doyle, Bearden and Fulton high schools.
“While she has spent many years in the classroom with our children, she has spent her whole life teaching us all by the example she sets for leadership and character,” London said.
A loving mother and local businessperson, Medley has a daughter who is a part of the new Mercy Wellnesse for Women physician network, Katherine M. Cameron, M.D., a urologist with Urology Consultants of Knoxville, P.C.
By calling one, toll-free number, 1-877-599-WELL, people needing assistance with health-resource related questions are connected with a Mercy Wellnesse nurse navigator, who will provide information and schedule appointments when necessary.  By working closely with all the parties - physicians, community providers and consumers - the Mercy Wellnesse nurse navigator will accomplish for the patient what might have taken many phone calls and many days to pull together.  The nurse navigator does not provide medical advice, and in case of a health emergency, please call 911 or your local first responders.
Mercy Wellnesse for Women is part of Mercy Health Partners, the healthcare organization formed by the merger of St. Mary’s Health System and Baptist Health System of East Tennessee in 2008.  The new healthcare system operates seven acute-care hospitals and many other healthcare facilities across East Tennessee.  More than 1,000 of the area’s leading physicians are on the medical staff at Mercy facilities.  One of East Tennessee’s largest employers, Mercy has 5,700 associates dedicated to providing compassionate care using the latest medical technology.
For physician referral and service information, please call the Ask Mercy phone line at 632-5200 (toll-free at 877-368-7362).  A complete list of Mercy physicians, facilities, services and extensive health information is available online at www.mercy.com.
