Mercy Cancer Centers Sponsor Program on Reducing Your Risk of Breast Cancer by Eating Right

--July 10, 2009

A registered dietitian from the Mercy Cancer Centers will explain how to lower the risk of developing breast and other forms of cancer through a proper diet at a free program from 5-6 PM, Tuesday, July 21, 2009, in the Sister Elizabeth Room A at the St. Mary’s North Women’s Center.

St. Mary’s North is located just east of I-75 at the Emory Road exit.
“Many people believe their risk of developing cancer is out of their control and largely determined by heredity or genes.  However, lifestyle factors such as diet and physical activity play a significant role in reducing your risk of developing this dreaded disease,” said Teresa McCusker, RD, LDN, the featured speaker at the event.

“This program will provide a summary of the research showing a link between diet and breast cancer prevention.  Those attending the program will also by able to enjoy a sampling of cancer-fighting foods during the discussion of ways to incorporate these beneficial foods into your everyday life,” McCusker added.

McCusker said that modifying you diet to include foods that have anti-cancer properties, such as blueberries and broccoli, is a good first step you can take to reduce your risk of developing breast cancer.
The program is free, but space is limited.  Please call Ask Mercy at 632-5200 for reservations.  Mercy Cancer Centers provide comprehensive cancer services at Mercy Health Partners facilities across East Tennessee.
