A Nurse Outside Each Room

Mercy Medical Center North features workstations outside each patient room, which will allow nurses to closely monitor every patient. Each floor has a business center for record management, the centralized nurse station is a thing of the past in hospital design. Nurses are able to enter data and comments into the electronic medical record, all while observing their patients through a window at each room.

The hospital has identically sized rooms that are the same-handed. The location of beds, bathrooms, furniture and medical equipment such as oxygen ports are all in the same place in every room. This will help in patient safety, especially in cases of emergency when treatment time is of the essence.

With this new design, each ambulatory patient is able to go from the bed to bathroom and back while holding a hand rail to help prevent a possible fall.

Families’ Comfort Is Crucial to Care

The medical center has family-focused rooms with dedicated family spaces, which include a sleep sofa, wireless internet access and a second TV. Another important design enhancement available at Mercy Medical Center North is the meals-on-demand service. Patients are able to order customized meals allowed under their diet plan, similar to room service in a hotel, With this service, the patient is able to place a request for freshly prepared meals that are, for the most part, made to order.
