Mercy Health – Cincinnati announces it will centralize labor and delivery services from Mercy Health – Fairfield Hospital to Mercy Health – Anderson Hospital and Mercy Health – West Hospital, starting May 1, 2024.

Mercy Health – Anderson Hospital and Mercy Health – West Hospital will be positioned as the providers of labor and delivery services within Mercy Health – Cincinnati. Mercy Health – Cincinnati’s obstetric teams will collaborate at these two hospitals to enhance the care experience for our patients. This change will enhance our program without duplicating resources, ensuring access, quality and cost-effective care for our patients. The opportunity also allows us to establish centers of excellence at both Anderson and West Hospitals.

This strategic shift, informed by national and regional women's health service evaluations, aims to optimize patient care and provider staffing. The transition will streamline services, enhance outcomes and ensure a smooth experience for patients and caregivers. By focusing on sustainable growth and quality care, Mercy Health remains committed to its mission of serving those in need, underscoring a future-oriented approach for the betterment of all.

“We are making this deliberate, strategic decision with the best interest of our patients in mind,” said Brian Gwyn, president of Mercy Health – Cincinnati. “By bringing our teams together in two focused centers of excellence, we ensure that our mothers, babies and families receive care from providers with extensive OB-GYN, labor and delivery experience. It also allows Mercy Health to be a good steward of its resources, investing in the latest, most advanced tools and technology in two locations instead of three.”

The Anderson Hospital and West Hospital service areas are complementary and easily accessible via Interstate 275. The connected nature of Mercy Health hospitals helps to ensure smooth, complimentary care at each site.

Mercy Health – Fairfield will continue providing women’s services such as breast surgery and mammography. Creating centers of excellence at West and Anderson Hospitals enhances our ability to provide access to equity centered maternity care. We will continue to be guided by our mission – to extend the compassionate ministry of Jesus by improving the health and well-being of our communities and bring good help to those in need, especially people who are poor, dying and underserved,” Gwyn said.

Providers will work individually with their patients to ensure they have all necessary information related to their care. Additionally, all impacted associates will be offered a new position within our ministry, including available positions in OB at Mercy Health – West Hospital, Mercy Health – Anderson Hospital or within the Mercy Health Medical Group.
