Overview

At Mercy Health, we use the latest technology to correct a variety of vision problems and conditions, such as nearsightedness, cataracts and glaucoma. Our ophthalmologists and eye surgeons have the advanced expertise and training that are needed to help achieve the best possible outcomes.

Are you ready to wake up in the morning and be able to see without putting on glasses or contacts? Laser eye surgery has helped millions of people enjoy clear vision, and the technology is safer than ever before. We perform several types of laser eye surgery, including LASIK, which is the most common. Our experts will help you decide which procedure is right for you.

In many adults over 60, a condition known as a cataract causes cloudy vision. A cataract is a build-up of protein in the lens of the eye. Most cataracts develop slowly over time. Our eye surgeons perform cataract surgery to help restore clear vision. In this procedure, the cloudy lens is replaced with a clear, artificial one called an intraocular lens, or IOL. Cataract surgery is safe and typically does not require an overnight stay.

Glaucoma is typically caused by a building up of fluid in the eye that increases pressure and damages the optic nerve. To help prevent this condition, we perform both laser and traditional glaucoma surgery. These procedures both help improve the flow of fluid out of the eye and reduce intraocular pressure. It’s important to note that glaucoma surgery can’t reverse vision loss already caused by glaucoma, so it’s important to prevent the disease by getting regular eye exams.
