Each year, the Mercy Health  West Hospital Auxiliary’s Scholarship Committee solicits applications from 26 schools in West Hospital’s service area for the following college scholarships:

  • Employee dependent
  • Hospital volunteer
  • Community

This year, the Scholarship Committee received 38 applications from students and it awarded $15,000 in college scholarships to seven local students who are pursuing careers in health care. 

“The quality of grades, activities, essays and recommendations was superb,” stated Scholarship chair, Shirley Frey.

The Auxiliary delivered certificates to each of the students at their homes. Details on the winners and their plans follow below.

Employee Dependent Scholarships:

Tyler Day, St. Xavier High School, attending the University of Cincinnati, biomedical engineering, $2,500
Emily Overbeck, Mercy McAuley High School, attending Miami University, nursing, $2,500

Volunteer Scholarship:

Maya Goertemoeller, St. Ursula Academy, attending the University of Cincinnati, pre-med, $2,500
Leah McCall, Mercy McAuley High School, attending the University of Dayton, pre-med, $1,250

Community Scholarship:

Caroline Eichhorn, Oak Hills High School, attending Clemson, pre-med, $2,500
Samuel Harmeyer, Elder High School, the Ohio State University, premed or sports medicine, $2,500
Megan Wills, Seton High School, Bellarmine, pre-physical therapy, $1,250

The Auxiliary of Mercy Health  West Hospital raises funds for charitable care and capital purchases that help the hospital provide top quality care to the patients it serves. The Auxiliary also awards annual scholarships to talented area students embarking on healthcare careers.
