As Mercy Health continues to expand access to high-quality health care services throughout the region, St. Rita’s Medical Center is pleased to announce an affiliation with Arubah Neuroscience Institute, PLLC, to provide advanced interventional and vascular neurology care.

Ayman Ahmad Gheith, MD, Islam Mohamed Tafish, MD, and Akram Shhadeh, MD, MBA; have partnered with the St. Rita’s neurology, neurosurgery and rehabilitation team to provide advanced neuroenedovascular treatments and highly specialized neuroscience care. The specialists are certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and have decades of combined experience in treating complex cerebrovascular and neurological patients.

Neurological health focuses on the impacts of the nervous system, including the brain and spinal cord. This partnership with Arubah Neuroscience Institute, PLLC, allows St. Rita’s to offer life-changing treatments close right here in the Greater Lima community.

The team is highly trained in intensive neuroscience critical care, and minimally invasive interventional treatment for stroke (thrombectomy), brain aneurysms and arterio-venous malformation (embolization), and carotid (stenting) as well as several other vascular diseases impacting the head and neck.

“We treat every patient as a family member,” Dr. Shhadeh said. A diagnosis of a neurological disorder can be scary, but together St. Rita’s and the Arubah team will be with our patients every step of the way.

The combination of medical expertise and leading-edge technology uniquely equips the St. Rita’s team to treat the entire spectrum of neurological conditions, from strokes and tumors of the brain and spine to glioma and head injuries to aneurysms and headaches Nervous systems determine how patients experience the world. Not only does the nervous system control sight, hearing, taste, smell and sensation, but it also oversees balance, movement, coordination, memories and the ability to think and reason. The St. Rita’s team of experienced, compassionate caregivers work one-on-one with patients to develop treatment plans tailored to their specific needs.

“Through both expansion of services and investment in our treatment options, St. Rita’s is ensuring that our community will receive the highest-quality, most comprehensive care without leaving their homes, their families, and their support systems,” said Lisa Rampe, director of Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Neuroscience & Rehabilitation Services. “

St. Rita’s recently announced the investment in an advanced harness system and a newly renovated gym space on the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit, to help patients who may have suffered from a stroke, trauma, traumatic brain injury, or any patient who is extremely fearful of falling or is experiencing significant muscle weakness.
