Jennifer Calicoat named Heart Hero at Springfield Regional

Jennifer Calicoat, a nursing supervisor in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit at Springfield Regional Medical Center, has been recognized with the hospital’s first Heart Hero Award. 

Heart disease is the number of killer of Americans, crossing gender lines to claim more lives each year than any other condition. The entire staff at Springfield Regional strives to offer the best care and counseling for patients, while supporting them and their loved ones. To recognize an individual who goes above and beyond in the tireless quest to improve the quality of life for heart patients, the Heart Hero Award was established.  

The award honors an individual who:
Models a heart healthy lifestyle for patients, families and the entire community.
Implements a holistic approach, including preventive and proactive measures for heart health.
Supports and inspires patients and their loved ones to strive for long-term heart health.
Acts a role model and resource person for new and veteran colleagues in cardiac care.
Encourages teamwork among cardiac care providers to improve the patient experience.

Her nomination said, “In her leadership role, Jennifer acts as a role model and resource person for Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit nurses. As a caregiver, Jennifer’s genuine compassion and dedication to easing suffering of others -- coupled with her vast knowledge and astute judgement -- enable Jennifer to offer superior care to each patient entrusted to her care. Her positive outlook and calming demeanor provides patients’ families and loved ones the stability they require while navigating the life altering course attendant to dealing with heart-related illnesses and conditions.”
