Mercy Health - Cincinnati Names Susan Brown Executive Director of Cancer Care Services

(CINCINNATI; November 4, 2014) – Mercy Health - Cincinnati, which provides advanced, quality, compassionate care in your neighborhood through its care network, announces that it has named Susan Brown executive director of cancer care services. Brown assumed the role on July 14, 2014.

Brown joins Mercy Health – Cincinnati from The James Cancer Hospital at the Ohio State University, where she served as Chief Nursing Officer for five years. In this role, Brown provided direction and leadership for strategic and business planning for the cancer program, nursing, ambulatory services and supportive care programming. She was responsible for the operations and practices of the 229-bed cancer specialty hospital, a budget of over $75 million and almost 900 full time employees. In that role, Brown accomplished the following:
• Led hospital to first Magnet designation 
• Served as a clinical point person for the master facility expansion in the patient care areas and contributed to the design and plans for construction of the new 300+ bed James Cancer Hospital 
• Drove quality outcomes leading to Leapfrog awards four years in a row
• Planned, developed and implemented Cancer Survivorship clinics in all subspecialties
• Facilitated development of a robust nursing research program resulting in over 50 publications and abstract presentations in 2012
• Was instrumental in the go-live of Electronic Medical Record (EPIC) institution-wide

Previously, Brown served as the Associate Vice President of Oncology Services and Director of the Oncology Service Line at Scottsdale Healthcare in Scottsdale, Arizona, with responsibility for cancer services at three campuses. She was also Administrative Director of the Oncology Service Line at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, Pennsylvania.

Brown has also served in the following roles:
• Outpatient Clinical Nurse Specialist at Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
• Director Medical-Surgical Nursing and Clinical Nurse Specialist at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton, New Jersey
• Director of Professional Services at Madison Home Health Care in Mt. Holly, New Jersey
• Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist at Memorial Hospital of Burlington County in Mt. Holly, New Jersey
• Staff Nurse at United States Air Force-Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. 
Brown holds a PhD in Nursing from the University of Arizona in Tucson, a Master’s degree in Oncology Nursing from Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania and Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Nazareth College in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
