Aetna Designates The Jewish Hospital - Mercy Health an Aetna Institute of Quality® for its Bariatric Program

(CINCINNATI; July 22, 2015) – Mercy Health – Cincinnati, which provides advanced, quality, compassionate care in your neighborhood, announces that Aetna has designated The Jewish Hospital – Mercy Health an Aetna Institute of Quality® Bariatric Surgery Facility for treating individuals living with morbid, or extreme, obesity.

A hospital that Aetna selects as an Aetna Institute of Quality meets certain standards of quality and cost efficiency including patient satisfaction, quality of care and how often people return to the hospital after surgery. In addition, facilities that Aetna selects under its Bariatric Surgery program for treating individuals living with morbid or extreme obesity must also meet criteria that include the surgeons’ level of experience, patient mortality rate and re-operation rate, major complication rate and having a specific quality improvement program in place.

Aetna provides its members with access to information about the quality and cost of health care services to help them make informed decisions about their health care needs. The Institutes of Excellence program offers additional transparency into hospitals and facilities in Aetna’s network that Aetna recognizes for offering specialized clinical services for certain health conditions and for consistently delivering evidence-based, safe care.

“Like all Mercy Health hospitals, The Jewish Hospital prides itself on providing its patients with quality care, close to home,” said Pat Davis-Hagens, Mercy Health Central Market President and CEO. “Our bariatric program is no exception to our quest for excellence and this designation from Aetna recognizes our commitment to ensuring our patients receive the best care possible.”
