Mercy Health Invites the Community to Enjoy a Fun-Filled Afternoon on the Western Hills Campus on Saturday, October 3

(CINCINNATI; September 17, 2015) – Continuing its longstanding commitment to the West Side, Mercy Health – Cincinnati, which provides advanced, quality, compassionate care in your neighborhood through its care network, announces that the Western Hills campus, which houses the Western Hills Medical Center and HealthPlex, will host a free, fun-filled afternoon for the community from noon-3 p.m. on Saturday, October 3. Mercy Health – Western Hills Medical Center is located at 3131 Queen City Ave., ZIP 45238.

“Everyone on the Mercy Health – Western Hills campus loves being part of this community,” said Beth Piece, Nursing Director, Mercy Health West Market Emergency Departments. “We want to express our thanks for the community’s support by inviting residents to have some fun with us!”

There will be fun for all the family, with activities including:
• free refreshments and snacks
• face painting
• animals from Great Parks of Hamilton County
• appearances by Who Dey and Rosie Red
• musical entertainment
• giveaways, including an hour backpack raffle for students
• free health screenings
• interactive fitness demonstrations, including boxing, a plank challenge family yoga, Zumba, kids obstacle course and line dancing

Attendees can also learn about the new Emergency Department and HealthPlex upgrades coming the campus in 2016.

Mercy Health has already started an 18-month project to separate the former Western Hills Hospital building from the Western Hills HealthPlex.

As part of the project, the Mercy Health - Western Hills Medical Center, a 24-hour emergency department, will move into a newly renovated 10,000 foot space in the HealthPlex building and the HealthPlex will receive a number of upgrades. Mercy Health will raze the Western Hills Hospital building.

The current emergency department will remain open until the new emergency department is ready to accept patients, ensuring local residents can continue to receive the top quality emergency care they expect from Mercy Health. The HealthPlex will also remain open throughout all construction, as will the outpatient physical therapy program located on the second floor of the HealthPlex.

“Mercy Health is designing the new emergency department to accommodate future community needs and assure accessibility. It will provide greater privacy for patients as well as the latest equipment. Its layout will help the care team provide patients with more efficient and effective care,” said Michael Stephens, Mercy Health – West Market President and CEO. “In the meantime, the current medical center will remain open and continue to provide the community with emergency services and the HealthPlex will remain open as well.”

The HealthPlex will see the following improvements:
• New Mind/Body Studio
• New Spin Studio
• New Functional Training Space
• New Spa
• Expanded KidsFit area

Mercy Health expects the new Emergency Department to open in the first quarter of 2016.
