Advancing the Profession
At Mercy Health, we strive to continually advance the nursing profession, which allows us to provide patients with leading-edge care close to home. Our nurses are involved in a wide variety of exciting opportunities across the ministry, as our Cincinnati Region Nursing Annual Report demonstrates.
Our leaders are examples of our commitment to compassion, dedication, continued education and service.

Chief Nurse Executive
Phyllis Doulaveris joined Mercy Health as the ministry’s first chief nurse executive in 2015. She is responsible for overseeing the delivery of care provided by nearly 9,000 Mercy Health nurses across Ohio and Kentucky.
The prestigious Magnet Recognition Program was developed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to recognize healthcare organizations that provide nursing excellence. It is recognized nationally as the gold standard of nursing excellence.
ANCC Magnet-recognized organizations are grounded in core Magnet principles, are flexible and constantly striving for discovery and innovation. They are leading healthcare reform and advancing the profession and care of each patient, family and community they serve.
These organizations are exemplary in their transformational leadership – helping to ensure care sustainability well into the future. In addition, their structure allows nurses to have an influential voice in the way high-quality care is delivered throughout the care continuum, reflects appropriate staffing levels and provides opportunity for and recognition of ongoing certifications, education and research.
As a ministry, we are proud of our hospital teams who have worked to achieve this designation. Mercy Health – St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital was the first of our facilities – and the first in the state of Ohio - to pass the rigorous and lengthy process.
The following Mercy Health hospitals have earned Magnet status.
• Mercy Health – St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital
• Mercy Health – St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital
• Mercy Health – St. Joseph Warren Hospital
• Mercy Health – Fairfield Hospital
