Kentucky Volunteering

Lourdes volunteers come from all corners of the community and represent a variety of professions, age groups, physical abilities and ethnic and cultural backgrounds. All have made the commitment to donate their time to patients, families and visitors and become an integral part of the Lourdes team.

Adult volunteers

To become a Lourdes volunteer, interested adults (18+ years of age) must be willing to volunteer 100 hours in a calendar year. A completed application is required, and an interview will be held. Volunteers will pass a background check, attend an orientation session to learn more about the ministry, volunteerism and necessary regulations, and participate in training prior to volunteering independently in a hospital unit or department.

Once orientation and training are complete, volunteers sign up to meet with a volunteer coordinator to determine area of interest.

Teen volunteers

Students between the ages of 14 – 18 are eligible for the Summer Teen Volunteer Program. Our teen volunteers have the opportunity to serve in a variety of areas learning the importance of ethics and confidentiality, professional behavior and appearance, patient interaction experience, service excellence, infection control, fire safety and security. It’s a great way to get hands on training experience in multiple areas and give back to their community

Interested applicants must complete an application available online in May. Once accepted, they must attend a volunteer orientation and take a TB test.

Teen volunteers must commit to a minimum of 30 hours of service within the six-week program. Letters or recommendation will be provided to those who serve 50 or more hours.
