Frequently Asked Questions
What does a birthing room look like?
Each birthing suite is beautifully decorated and comfortably furnished to create a home-like atmosphere. And although each room is equipped with all necessary medical equipment, it is hidden from view when not in use. Once your baby has been delivered, you and your family will move to a special post-delivery room for the rest of your stay.
How do we pre-register for admission to the Birthing Center?
To pre-register, please call Springfield Regional Medical Center's Patient Registration Department prior to your eighth month of pregnancy.
Can We Visit the Birthing Center?
Yes! We invite you to visit our facility before your admission and recommend that you complete a series of childbirth classes or a refresher course prior to the birth of your baby. For a complete listing of our childbirth classes, pick up our brochure and application at your obstetrician’s office or call us.
What should mom bring to the hospital?
We suggest the following items be packed two to three weeks before you are due to give birth:
- Robe and slippers
- Nightgowns (gowns that button down the front are helpful if you are planning to breastfeed)
- Clothing to wear home
- Clothing for your infant to wear home
- Personal toiletries
For safety reasons, electrical appliances (blow dryers, curling irons, etc.) need to be checked by the Birthing Center staff. Please inform your nurse of any electrical appliances that you bring with you to the hospital.
We ask that you leave all valuables, such as checkbooks, jewelry, credit cards, cameras and radios at home. The hospital is not responsible for the loss of personal items.
