All about the system

The daVinci® Surgical System is groundbreaking technology. With it, surgeons have more control, better visualization, improved dexterity and greater control over surgical equipment. In turn, you experience less blood loss, minimal scarring, and have faster, less painful recoveries.

The system has dramatically changed the surgical experience for surgeons and patients, and clinical studies have proven the system’s safety and effectiveness for minimally-invasive surgeries to treat complex conditions.

The surgical system consists of four main components:

  1. Surgeon console
In the same room as you, the console provides the surgeon with a high-resolution 3-D image of the surgical field. The daVinci technology translates the surgeon’s movement of the master controls into precise, real-time movement of the surgical instruments.
  2. Vision system
Made up of two components, a 3D endoscope/camera and image processing equipment, this system provides both the surgeon and surgical team with a magnified 3D image of the area being operated on.
  3. Patient side cart
When you’re brought in for surgery, you’ll rest comfortably on this unique operating table, with the daVinci Surgical System’s two robotic arms and one endoscopic arm attached to the cart. The set-up enables the arms to naturally pivot and carry out the surgeon’s hand movements at the console — like an extension of the surgeon’s hands.
  4. EndoWrist instruments
These high-tech instruments translate your surgeon’s hand motions into precise surgical movements carried out by the robotic arms operating. This technology provides your surgeon with a range of motion beyond that of the human wrist. Each instrument follows your surgeon’s exact movements to perform a specific surgical task. It’s truly amazing!
