Program Overview

Mercy Health – West Hospital is proud to offer a comprehensive PGY-1 pharmacy residency program, providing a pathway for two residents to embark on a journey of professional growth and excellence. By the program's culmination, our graduates are equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in a clinical pharmacist role, pursue board certification and even consider applying for a PGY-2 residency.

Structured to provide a well-rounded experience, the program features a series of required rotations, including Orientation, Internal Medicine, Antimicrobial Stewardship, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine and Administration. Alongside these essential experiences, residents also engage in longitudinal rotations, such as Pharmacy Practice Experience, Ambulatory Care (Anticoagulation), Research, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and Medication Safety. Additionally, we offer a diverse range of elective opportunities tailored to the individual goals of each resident. Notably, our program highlights unique elective experiences, including comprehensive disease state management in Ambulatory Care (encompassing CHF, diabetes, COPD and smoking cessation) and specialized training in Sterile Compounding.

As part of our commitment to comprehensive development, all residents are provided with the opportunity to obtain a teaching and learning certificate through the esteemed University of Cincinnati, further enhancing their skill set and preparing them for a fulfilling and impactful career in the field of pharmacy.
