Overhead Athlete Injuries Seminar
If you swim or take part in any of as many as 18 different sports, including baseball, tennis or volleyball, you are an overhead athlete. You use your arm and shoulder in an arc over your head to propel yourself or a ball and that activity can open you to a range of upper extremity injuries.
You can learn more about upper extremity injuries and how to treat and prevent them during a free educational seminar taking place at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 16 at the Anderson HealthPlex, 7495 State Road, Cincinnati, OH 45255. If you are currently struggling with a chronic shoulder, elbow or other upper extremity injury or want to learn how to prevent one, this program is for you.
During the seminar:
- Mercy Health Physician and orthopedic sports medicine specialist Michael Laidlaw, MD, will review the different injuries associated with overhead sports and surgical and non-surgical options for treating them.
- Physical therapist Hughston Kirby will outline rehabilitation options for those with upper extremity injuries as well as specialty training and equipment that can help you prevent injury or reinjury
- Personal trainer Amy Reed will discuss how tennis players and swimmers can return to form and highlight different training options and services for these athletes.
Mercy Health’s rehabilitation team will offer injury screenings on site after the program.
