Mercy Health's billing and collection policies are consistent with our mission and values. When you receive a bill from Mercy Health, it covers the services you received at one of our healthcare delivery facilities. You may receive separate bills from your personal physician, surgeon, pathologist or other healthcare professional.
To make a payment by telephone, please call 513-981-6500 or 1-866-808-0078 and do the following:
- Make a payment on your account using a check or credit card.
- Request an itemized statement.
- Provide insurance information.
- Update your address and telephone number.
- Obtain information on our financial assistance programs and more.
You can also make a payment online using our convenient and secure online bill pay system.
If you have specific questions about your account, our Customer Service Representatives are available Mon. – Fri., 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. We also offer a 24-hour automated customer service line and Spanish-speaking representatives.
We repeatedly offer patients access to financial help during their hospital stay and after, as well as with each billing notice. We send bills to collection as a last resort, only:
- When patients have the ability to pay some portion of their healthcare expenses, but refuse to do so.
- When patients refuse to work with us to determine if they qualify for free or discounted care via federal, state, local or hospital assistance programs.
- When we are unable to locate the patient or the person responsible for the bill.

Mercy Health honors major third-party coverage such as Medicare, Medicaid, Workers Compensation and other public assistance. Your third-party coverage may require prior approval of your hospitalization. Failure to obtain prior approval may result in reduced benefits requiring additional uninsured or personal charges. We can help you obtain prior approval for your hospitalization.
We accept commercial insurance and participate in most managed care plans. Please provide the Registration Department with all information necessary to bill your insurer, including your subscriber name, number and effective date.
Under Medicare law, healthcare services that can be paid for by Medicare are subject to review for compliance with medical standards. Review responsibilities for this hospital are conducted by Medco Peer Review at 513-421-6112. All information gathered for Peer Review purposes will remain confidential. Any recommendations/decisions that may affect your hospitalization will be communicated to you by Medco Peer Review.

Whether you are enrolled in a government healthcare program (such as Medicare or Medicaid) or a commercial health plan, you will likely have some out-of-pocket costs associated with a hospital stay. The price for services provided is based on many factors that vary from hospital to hospital, including the costs of buying medications, surgical equipment and other supplies; powering and maintaining hospital buildings; paying highly-trained healthcare workers; and purchasing up-to-date medical technology.
The best way for patients to determine their out-of-pocket costs in advance of obtaining services is to contact their insurer. If you do not have health insurance coverage, a Mercy Health financial representative can assist you in obtaining medical benefits through federal, state and hospital programs and can help you determine if you will have any out-of-pocket costs.
Determining Your Out-of-Pocket Costs
Although each of our hospitals charges all of its patients the same prices for the same services, the amount you will pay depends on the type of health insurance coverage you have.
- If you have commercial health insurance, please contact your insurance company to obtain an estimate of what you will pay for a specific procedure.
- If you have Medicare, please visit this site to learn more about your out-of-pocket costs or call 1-800-MEDICARE.
- If you have Medicaid, you may be asked to pay a small portion of the cost of some medical services depending on the Medicaid rules in your state. Learn more at this site.

If you do not have coverage, please call your hospital’s billing department and ask to speak with a financial representative who will assist you in obtaining medical benefits through federal, state and hospital programs.
