Lourdes' Clinical Laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the leading organization of board-certified pathologists which serves patients, pathologists, and the public by fostering and advocating excellence in the practice of pathology and laboratory medicine.

The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program is designed to go well beyond regulatory compliance by providing a solid foundation for quality practices and assisting laboratories in achieving the highest standards of excellence to positively impact patient care.

During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratory's records and quality controls and procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also check staff qualifications, laboratory's equipment, facilities, safety program and records, as well as the overall management of the laboratory. This ongoing process is designed to ensure continued, optimum laboratory performance.

In addition, Lourdes' Clinical Laboratory is also accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) and the Department of Health, State of Kentucky.
