What is a Sleep Disorders Center?
A Sleep Disorders Center is a facility that specializes in the evaluation and treatment of people with suspected sleep disorders. Mercy Health - Boardman Sleep Center is accredited by The American Academy of Sleep Medicine. An Accredited Sleep Center indicates the institution’s commitment to ensure that sleep disorders patients receive the highest quality of care possible.

What We Do
After your doctor orders a sleep study, our office staff will contact you to set up your appointment. On the night of your test, a specially trained sleep technologist will greet you and answer any questions you may have. After completing some simple paperwork with you, your technologist will place devices on you to monitor your breathing, heart rate, and brain waves. This procedure is painless and does not involve any needles or medications.

The sleep study is performed during your normal sleeping hours, and takes approximately 9 hours to complete. You will be monitored from another room the entire night. Unless you need assistance, you will be left undisturbed until your normal wake up time.

After the study, the monitors will be removed and you will be discharged. A different technologist will download your study and prepare it for a physician to review.  The physician who reviews the study has also been specially trained in sleep disorders, and will confer with your doctor regarding the results. The doctors will work together to form a follow up plan and the doctor who ordered your test will notify you of the results.

Our six-bed lab is located outside of the hospital, in order to provide the most relaxing and quiet environment possible. The parking area is just steps away from the entrance to the Center so that people with limited mobility have easy access. After you have been scheduled, a map will be mailed to your home for your convenience. A brochure explaining the procedure will be included.

Our testing suites are modeled after luxury hotel rooms, complete with large, comfortable, adjustable beds, televisions, and reclining lift chairs. Handicapped accessible showers and restrooms are available, in order to accommodate every body type. Pre-test tours are available for your convenience during daytime hours.
