Mercy Health — St. Rita’s Medical Center is proud to have received initial accreditation for the newly developed Emergency Medicine Residency Program.

In accordance with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), all accredited programs are reviewed annually. At its September 6, 2019 meeting, the Review Committee for Emergency Medicine reviewed the program and granted Mercy Health – St. Rita's Medical Center initial accreditation.

The Emergency Medicine Residency Program is a three-year program and is approved for a total of 18 accredited resident positions. Medical student candidates will be able to apply in the fall 2019 and we will participate in the 2020 National Resident Matching Program. Our first class of 6 Emergency Medicine residents will start on July 1, 2020.

“The accreditation of the Emergency Medicine Residency Program is another example of how Mercy Health – St. Rita’s is using its resources to improve the quality of healthcare for our friends and families that are the Lima community,” said Kevin Casey, DO, Regional Chief Clinical Officer for Mercy Health - Lima. “Bringing in high quality physicians to train our residents, training those residents to be excellent physicians and then keeping them in the community not only benefits the individual patient but the entire region. We are humbled and privileged to be able to provide amazing care today as well as provide clinical excellence far into the future.”
