The mission of the adaptive sports and recreation at Mercy is to promote health and well-being by offering community sports and recreational activities to people who have physical disabilities. We are the only such program to serve adults with physical disabilities in this area.
Features of membership in our program include:
- A wide variety of sports and recreational activities
- Adaptive sports financial assistance for participation in adaptive sports programs based on need
- Transportation assistance to some activities
- Coordination with inpatient recreation therapist to provide free opportunities to programs held at Mercy
Members of our program are generally people who have experienced:
- Traumatic brain injury
- Spinal cord injury
Or who have:
- Multiple sclerosis
- Parkinson's disease
- Muscular dystrophy
- Cerebral palsy
Taking part in recreational activity can help you feel more independent, increase your self-esteem and decrease depression. You also will have the opportunity to develop new friendships and support systems in your community.
