It can be scary to be diagnosed with prediabetes. Prediabetes can affect children and adults and is shown when fasting blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not yet in the range of diabetes. However, it can be a wakeup call and diabetes may be delayed or prevented with lifestyle changes. To learn more about prediabetes, Mercy Health is here to help.

Mercy Health will be hosting a prediabetes info session on Wednesday, November 9 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital.

The free program will be presented by the Mercy Health Diabetes Educators. This session is designed to help you get engaged with your health and understand your prediabetes numbers with steps to prevent diabetes.

“Prediabetes affects about 96 million adults - that’s more than 1 in 3 people. Because more than 80% of people with prediabetes do not know they have it, it’s important to know your numbers,” said Debbie Hlad, diabetes education manager at Mercy Health. “Pre-diabetes increases your risk for type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke – so your numbers do matter.”
