Jacquelyn Palmer, MD is Butler County’s First Hidden Scar™ Certified Breast Surgeon

Mercy Health – Cincinnati, which provides advanced, compassionate, quality care in your neighborhood through its care network, announces that Jacquelyn Palmer, MD of Mercy Health – Fairfield Breast Surgery has earned certification as a Hidden Scar™ certified breast surgeon.

Dr. Palmer, a fellowship-trained, board-certified surgical breast oncologist, recently completed the Hidden Scar™ certification program and is the only Hidden Scar™ certified surgeon in Butler County. With Dr. Palmer’s certification, Mercy Health – Fairfield Hospital, where Dr. Palmer performs surgery, is an official “Hidden Scar™ Center.”

“Hidden Scar™ breast cancer surgery is an advanced approach to treating breast cancer while optimizing cosmetic results,” says Dr. Palmer. “I remove cancerous tissue through a single incision made in an inconspicuous area to minimize visible scarring, which helps patients retain the look of their breasts.”

Hidden Scar™ surgeries benefit breast cancer patients by:

  • sparing the nipple, areola and surrounding tissue to preserve a natural-looking breast
  • easing the emotional impact of breast cancer surgery by leaving little to no visible reminder of the surgery
  • providing a more natural looking breast reconstruction

Patients who have Hidden Scar surgery are at no higher risk of their cancer recurring than patients who undergo any other type of breast cancer surgery technique.

“Hidden Scar breast cancer surgery may be appropriate for a wide range of breast cancer patients undergoing nipple-sparing mastectomy or breast-conserving (lumpectomy) procedures,” says Dr. Palmer. “Tumor size and location, breast shape and size and a patient’s ability to undergo risks associated with surgery determine if a woman qualifies for Hidden Scar surgery.”

Breast surgeon and surgical oncologist Hilary Shapiro-Wright, DO, of Mercy Health – Kenwood Breast Surgery, is undergoing certification and will offer Hidden Scar surgery at The Jewish Hospital in the coming months.
