Wapakoneta Police Department raise funds for breast cancer through “No-Shave” Campaign

(Lima, December 19, 2016) On Wednesday, Dec. 21, Wapakoneta Police Department will present a check totaling $1,000 to St. Rita’s Women Wellness Center and St. Rita’s Foundation. The check presentation will take place at 10 a.m. at the Wapakoneta Police Department located at 701 Parlette Ct, Wapakoneta, OH 45895.

Through the months of October and November, Russel Hunlock, Chief of Police for the Wapakoneta Police Department, let his officers grow facial hair. The department typically has policies that restrict them from growing out their facial hair, but Chief Hunlock made an exception for these two months. The department’s No-Shave November campaign took off in 2015 when Chief Hunlock’s wife, Michelle, was diagnosed with breast cancer in April of that year. Through this campaign the team wanted to bring awareness to breast cancer.

“This is the second year in a row where we have raised funds for St. Rita’s Women’s Wellness Center through No-Shave November,” said Chief Hunlock. “The campaign was received so well last year that we wanted to do it again this year. My team and I want to be able to help others who may be affected by breast cancer.”

The campaign allowed officers to grow out their facial hair with an entry fee. At the end of November, they held an auction to see who would shave off their beards. Through these efforts, they were able to raise $1,000.

“We are humbled to receive this generous donation from Chief Hunlock, Michelle and team,” said Jacque Daley-Perrin, St. Rita’s Foundation President. “As the holidays are upon us, this donation is truly a gift to those who need it most. The funds they raised will make an impact on our Women’s Wellness Center, but most importantly, our patients.”

Chief Hunlock, his team and Michelle, are honored to present this check to St. Rita’s Women’s Wellness Center and St. Rita’s Foundation.

Editor’s Note: Chief Hunlock, Jacque Daley-Perrin and Rosie Moon (Mammographer at St. Rita’s Wapak Imaging Center), will be available for interviews post- check presentation.
