The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a quality program administered by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) has granted accredited status to the Mercy Health – Lorain Breast Cancer Program in Lorain, Ohio, confirming the high-quality, comprehensive and compassionate care delivered right here in Lorain County.

As an NAPBC-accredited center, the Mercy Health – Lorain Breast Cancer Program is committed to maintaining levels of excellence in the delivery of comprehensive, patient-centered, multidisciplinary care resulting in high-quality care for patients with breast disease. Patients can be confident that their breast care team includes health care professionals from a variety of disciplines who are committed to working together to provide the best care available through their entire course of treatment. “Mercy Health – Lorain and our breast cancer care program are committed to providing high-quality, compassionate cancer care close to home for our patients. This accreditation reaffirms that commitment and the care our patients have come to expect,” says Dr. Mita Patel, surgical breast oncologist and medical director of the Mercy Health – Lorain Breast Program. “From ultrasounds, MRIs, 3D mammograms and breast imaging to bone density scans, chemotherapy and radiation therapy, everything our patients need is conveniently available. Breast cancer is complex, and we know health outcomes can be improved when patients don’t have the added stress of traveling for treatment. We’re proud to deliver this accredited care to the people of Lorain and its surrounding counties.”

As part of their accreditation process, NAPBC surveyors review each center’s commitment to leadership, clinical services, research, community outreach, professional education and quality improvement. Breast centers seeking NAPBC accreditation undergo a site visit every three years. Accreditation by the NAPBC is granted only to those programs that are committed to providing the best possible care to patients with breast cancer.
