At Mercy Health – Lorain, every day is Mother’s Day. From the first signs of pregnancy to delivery and postpartum care, Mercy Health is dedicated to supporting mothers with personalized, compassionate care — now with expanded midwifery services and broader access for families in southern Lorain County.

“While moms are busy caring for everyone else, we’re making sure someone is caring for them,” said Mercy Health OBGYN Dr. Marcietta Wilson, who treats patients at Mercy Health — Amherst Obstetrics and Gynecology and Mercy Health — Oberlin Obstetrics and Gynecology. “Whether you’re a first-time parent or growing your family, we want moms to feel supported every step of the way. By broadening access to care in southern Lorain County, we’re bringing personalized care close to home for many. On top of that, adding additional providers and midwives to our team ensures that every mother receives care tailored to her needs.”

Mercy Health opened Mercy Health — Oberlin Obstetrics and Gynecology at 224 West Lorain St., Suite 500, Oberlin, Ohio 44074 to expand access to OBGYN services in southern Lorain County. As part of this expansion, Dr. Olga Kontarovich joined Mercy Health – Vermilion & Oberlin Obstetrics and Gynecology at the end of 2024 to enable Mercy Health to care for more Lorain County patients.

“Whether that’s through a successful pregnancy and delivery, getting to go home with their baby, or improving someone’s quality of life through medication or surgery, it is very rewarding seeing my patients happy,” said Dr. Kontarovich.

Certified nurse midwives provide expert care for pregnancy, labor, and general women’s health, offering natural birth support and comfort techniques such as hydrotherapy, massage, birthing balls, and music therapy. Nicole Justice, APRN-CNM is Mercy Health – Lorain’s second certified nurse midwife, bringing a trauma-informed, compassionate approach to care to guide women through pregnancy, well-woman exams, and life transitions with empathy and shared decision-making.

“Working alongside midwives as a labor and delivery nurse showed me the power of compassionate, patient-centered care,” said Nicole Justice, APRN-CNM. “That experience inspired me to become a midwife myself. The most rewarding part of my work is walking with women through life’s transitions and building trusted relationships where they feel safe, supported, and respected,” said Nicole.

Dr. Kontarovich and Nicole join a team of trusted providers who have been serving Lorain County mothers for many years, including Dr. Marcietta Wilson, Dr. Tarek Dbouk, Dr. James Matheson, and Certified Nurse Midwife Heather Bruderer, APRN-CNM — all of whom are dedicated to ensuring women receive high-quality care in a safe and supportive environment. Mercy Health also plans to add another midwife to the team later this year.

In addition to expanding access to care and our team of providers, the Veard Family Birthing Center continues to offer spacious, modern birthing suites equipped with advanced technology and staffed around the clock by our OB/GYNs and certified nurse midwives. This care model offers patients a personalized approach that blends medical expertise with emotional support and respect for patient preferences.

Mercy Health also offers prenatal education courses to prepare families for childbirth, including labor and delivery techniques, newborn care, and postpartum recovery, as well as education resources to support mom, baby and families during the postpartum period. Plus, Mercy Health’s moms have access to lactation consultants to help them on their breastfeeding journey – a resource that’s available both during their hospital stay and once they’ve returned home if they need continued support.

“Motherhood doesn’t come with a manual, but it should come with a support system,” said Dr. Wilson. “We’ve designed our services to surround moms with care and connection.”
