Mercy Health recently unveiled the newly renovated Florencio and Lily Yuzon Medical Center at Mercy Health – Lorain Hospital. The medical office building underwent a considerable transformation to modernize the facility, which will benefit patient experience and enhance operations. The upgrades to the facility were made possible through a generous donation from the Yuzon family, whose legacy of lifelong care in Lorain County has touched the lives of many.
“Modernizing health care facilities is essential to enhancing patient experience. Upgrades like the ones made to the Florencio and Lily Yuzon Medical Center make facilities more comfortable, efficient, and safe for patients,” said Dr. Gil Palmer, president, Mercy Health – Lorain Hospital. “This building is home to all of Mercy Health’s specialty care, centralizing these services to one location to improve patient access and make treatment more convenient. We are proud and excited to share the transformation of this medical center with our patients and community.”
This transformation began in late 2024. Specific upgrades to the facility include new flooring, ceilings, all new general and accent painting, new interior and exterior signage and artwork throughout, as well as the addition of various furniture pieces in common areas. At the same time these upgrades were being made, Mercy Health invested in updates to classrooms located in the building to bolster the system’s efforts to train the next generation of health care professionals and fill the talent pipeline. The Florencio and Lily Yuzon Medical Center also boasts an interior landscaping display which was reimagined to model the Black River Watershed – a salute to one of Lorain County’s significant geographical landmarks. This display will continue providing patients and visitors with the physical and mental health benefits of interiorscaping.
“Our gratitude to the Yuzon family is immeasurable. Dr. Florencio and Lily Yuzon dedicated their lives to healing and community service in Lorain County, leaving a lasting legacy through decades of compassionate medical care and civic involvement. That legacy will continue through the Florencio and Lily Yuzon Medical Center, as countless patients will walk through its doors to receive high quality, compassionate care from our dedicated Mercy Health providers,” said Scott Pember, President, Mercy Health Foundation Lorain.
Dr. Yuzon, a devoted physician and former Chief of Staff at Mercy Health – Lorain, practiced medicine for more 50 years, often seeing patients late into the night to ensure their well-being. Alongside him, Lily served as general manager of their practice and contributed her leadership to numerous local boards and charitable foundations, including Mercy Health Hospital and Foundation and the Lorain County Community College Foundation. This space will serve as a continued extension of their healing ministry, providing advanced care and support to the community they so deeply loved and uplifted. Their story is a testament to the powerful connection between compassionate care, dedicated service, and a thriving community.
Mercy Health would like to thank Interfinish, the general contractor (Garfield Heights), Creative Palette, the artwork designer and manufacturer (Lewis Center, Ohio), Brady Signs (Sandusky, Ohio), Champlin Architects (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Corso’s Landscaping (Sandusky, Ohio) for their efforts in bringing this project to fruition.
