Paducah, KY (October 10, 2016) – Lourdes is excited to now offer breast cancer patients a new minimally invasive procedure in which breast surgeons remove cancerous tissue through a single incision to help minimize visible scarring. This advanced surgical approach is called Hidden Scar breast cancer surgery.

Lourdes is the only hospital in the region to offer this surgical option. Mercy General Surgeons, Dr. Rebecca Gill and Dr. Daniel Howard are certified in Hidden Scar.

By utilizing this approach, we are able to preserve a natural-looking breast by sparing the nipple, areola and surrounding tissue,” says Dr. Daniel Howard, Mercy General Surgeon. “The Hidden Scar approach may also ease the emotional impact of breast cancer surgery, in that patients have little to no visible reminder of the surgery, and experience a more natural looking breast reconstruction.”

“Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among American women,” says Dr. Rebecca Gill, Mercy General Surgeon. “Seventy percent of women who are newly diagnosed are unaware of all the surgical options available, including minimally invasive approaches that can help restore their self-image and allow them to begin the emotional healing process.”

Dr. Gill and Dr. Howard are also trained to preform Hidden Scar nipple-sparing mastectomies and breast lumpectomies. To see if you’re a candidate, call Mercy General Surgery at 270-442-9463 or visit http://breastcancersurgery.com/
