Mercy Health Hospice by Compassus is currently seeking volunteers to work with the area’s hospice patients.
Mercy Health Hospice by Compassus in Paducah serves patients from a region that spans 13 counties in Kentucky and three in Illinois. It needs volunteers in the home setting and in skilled and assisted nursing facilities to interact with families and hospice patients to bring them comfort.
Duties include reading to patients, playing music, interacting with patients and families, completing small tasks around the house and as needed, assisting with errands and writing letters.
These volunteers are vital to the community and serve as valuable resources, helping patients and their families while also educating and informing others about hospice and end-of-life care.
The volunteer coordinator works directly with you to identify opportunities to match your goals and abilities. Some hospice volunteers choose direct patient support, while others work behind the scenes at the office or with the hospice team.
Hospice volunteers should have a compassionate and kind attitude toward their patients. They should strive to provide comfort and support for both the patient and their family members. They should be reliable, punctual and prepared for the tasks assigned to them. Good communication skills are essential in this role. Hospice volunteers should have a good understanding of hospice services, as well as, the hospice philosophy of care, taught during training. Free training will be provided by Mercy Health Hospice by Compassus. After completing training, you can determine the time you are able to commit to service. Whether you give two hours a month or six hours a week, all efforts are appreciated and needed.
