Mercy Health to Have Major Presence at 2017 Canfield Fair

Mobile Mammography Van will be at the core of
community health education and screening activities

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO (August 30, 2017) – The 171st Canfield Fair opens today, and Mercy Health - Youngstown is ready to enhance attendees’ experience with vital community health education and screening opportunities.

The healthcare leader’s goal for this year’s event is to connect members of its communities to health screenings and education that will help improve their health status. At the center of Mercy Health’s presence at the fair is its “Joanie On the Go,” a mobile unit that serves as an extension of its Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center, bringing state-of-the-art mammography services into the community. The unit is the first in eastern Ohio to offer 3-D mammography, which is clinically proven to detect 41 percent more invasive breast cancers.

Community members who are interested in mammograms during the fair can walk-in to the mobile mammography van on the grand concourse of the fairgrounds. Mammograms will be available on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of fair week from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Screenings will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Those interested can also make an appointment by calling (330) 480-2654. Mercy Health expects to complete as many as 70 mammograms as part of its Canfield Fair activities.

Fair attendees can also take advantage of other Mercy Health activities, including:

  • Get information about health screenings and programming, with a focus on breast health, prostate health, lung health, diabetes and nutrition management, the opioid epidemic and tobacco cessation
  • Ask for direction for accessing primary care services throughout the Mahoning Valley
  • Speak with a Mercy Health expert about health needs and available services
  • Spin the wheel and answer a health question to win a free drawstring backpack
  • Enter a raffle to win one of 12 $25 Target gift cards

The Mercy Health booth is located in the Medical Administration Building and will be open Wednesday, Aug. 30, through Monday, Sept. 4, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Canfield Fair is the largest county fair in Ohio and the third-largest in the United States. It is the largest venue in which Mercy Health delivers community health education and screenings annually.
