Mercy Health – Youngstown Hosts Woman's Heart Day

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO (May 4, 2017) – It began 14 years ago to help increase awareness of the impact of heart disease on women. Today, Mercy Health - Youngstown’s Woman’s Heart Day has grown into something much bigger.

The annual event is slated for next Thursday, May 11, from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Youngstown’s Covelli Centre. And while women’s heart health remains a core focus, this year’s event will include a wide variety of health services for both women and men. The goal? To reach underserved people in the Mahoning Valley with potentially life-saving screenings, as well as information they need to improve their health status.

A flagship community event for Mercy Health - Youngstown, Woman’s Heart Day drew close to 1,000 attendees in 2016. Hundreds of Mercy Health employees and physicians bring the event to life, managing screenings, answering health-related questions, engaging with community members and delivering health education sessions. The 2017 “health and wellness extravaganza” will feature:

  • Health screenings including bone density, hemoglobin A1C (diabetes) and lipid profile (cholesterol)
  • Mammograms
  • Dental services
  • “Ask a Doc” – connect directly to a primary care physician to ask health-related questions
  • “Ask a Pharmacist” – connect directly to a pharmacist to ask medication-related questions
  • Health information exhibit hall, featuring more than 70 Mercy Health - Youngstown services and community-based health-and-wellness organizations
  • Blood drive
  • Fitness demonstrations, including Chair Yoga (12 to 12:30 p.m.) and Zumba (12:45 to 1:15 p.m.)
  • CPR training (hands-only sessions from 10:30 to 11 a.m. and 11:15 to 11:45 a.m.)
  • Spa services (massage therapy and Macy’s salon)
