Robotic Surgery

From the Robotics Director,

Daniel J. Ricchiuti, MD

The Robotic Surgery Center offers robotic treatment for cystectomy, prostatectomy, pyeloplasty, and partial nephrectomy. The daVinci Robotic Surgical System is housed at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital and provides patients with an alternative to traditional open surgery and conventional laparoscopy. Surgeons can perform the most complex and delicate procedures through very small incisions with unmatched precision. The surgeon operates while seated comfortably at a console viewing a 3-D image of the surgical field. The surgeon's fingers grasp the master controls below the display, with hands and wrists naturally positioned relative to his or her eyes. The system seamlessly translates the surgeon's hand, writ and finger movements into precise, real-time movements of surgical instruments inside the patient. With this method, patients benefit with significantly less pain, less blood loss, less scarring, shorter recovery time, a faster return to normal daily activities, and better clinical outcomes. These procedures represent the most advanced minimally invasive approaches to surgical treatment.

All surgeons may admit, evaluate, diagnose, consult, and provide preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative surgical care and correct or treat various condition, illnesses, and injuries of the surgical anatomy. The minimum number of procedures must be performed in a 2-year period to comply with appointment and reappointment criteria.
