CardioMEMS™ Implant for Congestive Heart Failure

Heart failure occurs when the heart cannot pump enough blood to meet the body’s needs. It’s a condition that leads to frequent hospital stays, a poor quality of life and a higher risk of death. The symptoms include shortness of breath, abdominal swelling, swollen ankles, fatigue and weight gain.

The CardioMEMS HF System is the first and only FDA-approved heart monitoring system proven to reduce hospital admissions of heart failure patients. This miniature, wireless sensor is implanted in the patient’s pulmonary artery during a minimally-invasive procedure. It detects small changes in the artery’s pressure, alerting physicians to problems before symptoms appear.

Now we can proactively manage your heart failure

The sensor painlessly transmits daily pressure readings to an external electronic system. Armed with these readings, your cardiology provider can quickly react to changes and adjust your treatment long before your symptoms warrant a hospital stay. Because it needs no batteries, the sensor can last a lifetime. In clinical trials, the system reduced hospital stays by 37 percent.
