Centers & Clinics

The heart care you need, where you need it.

We’ve designed our cardiac programs around you and your family, with several centers and clinics that focus on a collaborative approach to care.

The Stroke Center

The St. Elizabeth Stroke Center is the area’s first Stroke Center certified by The Joint Commission…your assurance of quality care. The Center meets strict guidelines for the care of stroke patients and offers education regarding risk factors and prevention.

This collaborative program brings together various service areas, including the EMS, emergency department, Neuroscience Center, physicians, nurses, radiology, rehabilitation services, case management, social services and quality improvement.

If you’re experiencing stroke symptoms, it’s critical that you get to the hospital as quickly as possible. Once there, our physicians can act rapidly to evaluate you and determine the best, most effective treatments.

As a certified Stroke Center, St. Elizabeth has also been involved in numerous international clinical trials related to stroke. Being at the forefront of stroke research means that eligible patients have a unique opportunity to receive potentially life-saving treatments.

Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) Clinics

Most people with heart failure don’t realize that they have the power to live healthier lives. Our Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) Clinic programs are designed to educate you about heart failure and treatment and guide you toward a healthier lifestyle.

Our programs are centered on a team approach involving you, your physician, clinical nurse coordinators, specialists from pharmacy, social work, nutrition, cardiac rehabilitation and more. You and your caregivers will learn about identifying symptoms, diet, medication and adherence.

If you have any questions, please discuss them with your physician or any staff member at the St. Elizabeth or St. Joseph CHF Clinics.

The Cardiovascular Lab

If you or a loved one requires a cardiac cath procedure, our outpatient St. Elizabeth Cardiovascular Lab offers advanced care close to home.

The Cardiovascular Lab offers leading-edge cardiac procedures in a comfortable, hotel-like environment. Located within St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, our inviting lobby area greets patients and their families, while our state-of-the-art facility provides the highest quality care.

During a heart attack, time is critical to preserving heart muscle. We work closely with area EMS squads in order to expedite lifesaving treatment. EMTs perform an EKG in the field, and then transmit the information to our hospital emergency room where a physician can review the EKG. If necessary, we can prepare the cath lab and cath lab team in advance so they’re standing by before the patient comes through the door.

The Valve Clinic

The Valve Clinic at St. Elizabeth Youngstown provides a multidisciplinary team approach for diagnosing and treating patients with valvular heart disease. We developed the clinic after a review of echocardiograms revealed a high percentage of patients in the tri-county region suffered from severe valve disease.

Our team brings together cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons to evaluate each patient and collaboratively develop individual treatment plans, giving our patients the best possible outcomes.

When tests indicate that a patient has severe valvular heart disease, the echocardiogram technician immediately notifies the interpreting cardiologist and valve clinic coordinator. The valve clinic coordinator then works with the primary care physician and interpreting cardiologist to coordinate additional diagnostic testing and consultation. Once the specialists have identified treatment recommendations, findings and recommendations are shared with the patient’s primary care providers.

The Valve Clinic at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital is conveniently located on the first floor and is easily accessible from the main entrance to the hospital. For more information, call 330-480-3998.
