About Robotics


This state-of-the-art robotic instrument facilitates intricate movements and visualization inside the patient’s body. Instruments have wrists that move much like the human wrist, but are much smaller, allowing them to work in very tight spaces in a precise manner. The surgeon, located at the surgical console operates hand controls and watches the surgical field through a 3-D monitor. Each movement that is made by the surgeon’s hands is directly translated into movements by the robot’s instruments inside the patient’s body. Advantages include: less pain, less blood loss, shorter hospital stay and quicker return to full activity.

da Vinci System

The da Vinci® Surgical System is integral to the operating room and supports the entire surgical team. The system consists of a surgeon console, patient-side cart, instruments and image processing equipment.

The Surgeon Console
The surgeon operates while seated comfortably at a console viewing a 3-D image of the surgical field. The surgeon’s fingers grasp the master controls below the display with wrists naturally positioned relative to his or her eyes. The technology seamlessly translates the surgeon’s movements into precise, real-time movements of the surgical instruments inside the patient.
Patient Side Cart
The patient side cart provides the two robotic arms and one endoscope arm that execute the surgeon’s commands. The da Vinci® Surgical System is the only robotic system with intuitive motion. As the surgeon twists the controls clockwise, the robot’s instruments twist clockwise, giving the surgeon natural hand-eye coordination. Because of the use of the small robotic arms, the patient receives much smaller operative incision. The robotic arms pivot in the small operating port minimizing tissue and nerve damage to the patient. Supporting surgical team members install the correct instruments and supervise the laparoscopic arms and tools being utilized. 

EndoWrist Instruments
A full range of instruments are provided to support the surgeon while operating. The instruments are designed with seven degrees of motion that mimic the dexterity of the human wrist. Each instrument has a specific surgical mission such as clamping, suturing and tissue manipulation. Quick-release levers speed instrument changes during surgical procedures. 

Insite high resolution 3-D Endoscope and Image Processing Equipment
This equipment provides the surgeon with true to life 3-D images of the operative field. Operating images are enhanced, refined and optimized using image synchronizers, high-intensity illuminators and camera control units. The Navigator Camera Control allows the surgeon to easily change, move, zoom and rotate his or her field of vision.
