(Oberlin, OH) Fourteen years ago, Deon Regis, MD, graduated from Oberlin College as part of their 3-2 program with a Bachelor of Arts degree with concentrations in physics and African American studies. Focused on becoming a biomedical engineer, Dr. Regis left for New York, never dreaming that one day he would return to the Oberlin community as a doctor.

And yet, that’s exactly what happened.

After obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Columbia University, Dr. Regis answered his true calling, and went on to pursue a medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine and complete a fellowship in healthcare disparities.  He fulfilled his training in Columbus, OH, and served as Chief Resident at Mount Carmel Family Medicine. He then went onto serve as Mount Carmel Family Medicine’s Assistant Program Director for the past five years.

Now, Mercy Health Physicians is proud to welcome him back to the area as a family medicine physician with the Mercy Health - Oberlin Primary Care team. He joins partners Israel Cajigas, MD, Helmut Jungschaffer, MD, Mindy Riedy, CNP, Nicole Maddock, CNP, and Stephanie Fortney, NP-C, in the growing Oberlin family medicine and pediatric office.

Dr. Regis is excited to practice and live in the Oberlin community, the place where is wife grew up. “Coming back to Oberlin allows me to give back to a community that welcomed me and made me feel like family,” said Dr. Regis. “Oberlin is a special place. With such a long, rich history, I feel privileged to be able to call it home.”

Additionally, Dr. Regis is passionate about his community’s health and dedicates his time to the cause. Previously serving as the co-director of a free clinic in Columbus, Dr. Regis looks forward to getting active in the Oberlin community once again.

In addition to Dr. Regis and his partners, the Mercy Health – Oberlin Primary Care also offers extended evening and weekend hours with shorter wait times and lower costs compared to urgent care or ER visit with Mercy Health - Oberlin Ready Care.
