Mercy Health - Diabetes Care and Endocrinology is staffed by board-certified physicians and registered dietitians who specialize in providing evaluation, treatment, education and support to help you manage your diabetes and be well. Whether you’ve recently been diagnosed with diabetes or have been living with it for years, Mercy Health offers a variety of programs that can help. Our locations provide group and individual diabetes education and support services.

GROUP CARE

“Healthy Living with Diabetes” is a series of classes offered at our sites focusing on:

  • Nutrition and meal planning
  • Understanding diabetes
  • Blood sugar monitoring
  • Medications
  • Behavior changes
  • Exercise
  • Preventing complications
  • Goal setting

INDIVIDUAL EDUCATION AND COUNSELING

Our physicians, nurses, diabetes educators and dietitians provide the individualized instruction and attention you need to manage your diabetes, including:

  • Injecting insulin
  • Diabetes hormone injections
  • Specialized nutrition counseling
  • Special needs not met in group classes
  • Annual review of health status

MEDICATION MANAGEMENT

It takes a team to keep your diabetes under good control. Pharmacists can be important team members for patients on medications to treat diabetes. Our specially trained pharmacists can adjust medications to keep your blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol on target. They can even help you quit smoking. Ask your doctor for a referral.

GESTATIONAL DIABETES PROGRAM

Mercy Health offers educational sessions to women who develop diabetes during pregnancy. Topics include meal planning, blood sugar monitoring and, if needed, insulin use instruction.

PRE-DIABETES CLASSES

Pre-diabetes is a condition that forms before diabetes. It means that blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but aren’t high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. Pre-diabetes is a warning sign that allows people to take action to prevent or delay the onset of Type 2 diabetes. These classes focus on preventing the onset of diabetes through:

  • Making healthy food choices
  • Exercise and blood sugar control
  • Monitoring blood sugar levels
