Patient Guide

Hospital Pre-Registration

Thank you for choosing Mercy Health for your healthcare needs.

Please take a moment to complete your pre-registration. We ask that you do this more than three days prior to your service. On the day of your procedure, please bring your insurance cards and photo ID with you for verification. If you have any questions, please contact our Customer Service Team. We are happy to help you in any way.

Interpreters and Hearing Impaired

We offer free language interpreter services for our non-English-speaking patients through a phone interpreter service available 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Sign language interpreters are available free through the Youngstown Speech and Hearing Center. Written materials to assist the deaf, including communication boards and picture booklets, are available through the Speech Therapy department. If you need a TDD during your stay, please alert any member of your nursing staff. Please let us know what works best to help you effectively communicate.

Patient Meals

We are pleased to offer room service, which allows you to select your meals when you would like them. If you are on a special diet prescribed by your doctor, you will receive menus tailored to your specific needs.

All patient rooms have phones. Your family and friends may call you directly by dialing the number posted on your communication board.

To make a local call, dial 97 then the number. To make a long-distance call, dial 0 for the operator who can help you call collect, or follow the instructions on your calling card.

Each patient room has a TV. Please be considerate of others by keeping the TV volume down and turning off your TV at bedtime.

Channel listings are located in the patient guide (above).

Smoking Policy

Smoking and/or the use of any tobacco products is not permitted anywhere in the hospital or on hospital grounds.

Security

Please send your valuables with your family or a trusted loved one. If you have valuables in your possession, ask the nurse to call the Mercy Health Police who are stationed at the hospital. The police will place your valuables in a specific bag with your name in the police department safe. They will provide you with a receipt and will return them to you upon discharge.

There are small combination safes located in each patient room, which the patient must be alert, oriented and able to walk in order to use this safe.

Spiritual Care/Chapel

Chaplains are available to visit with our patients and families to offer religious resources, sacraments, support and prayer. If you would like the chaplain to visit, or if you would like to receive the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, please contact the Spiritual Care office by dialing 0 or let your nurse know.

There is a chapel in the hospital. The chapel is open to everyone for times of prayer and reflection. Your priest, minister or rabbi is always welcome to visit. Our prayers are with each patient and family.
