How digital mammogram is performed
When you arrive for your mammogram, you will be greeted by a team of experienced professionals who understand that these exams are extremely personal and sometimes cause anxiety. Their goal is to make the experience comfortable and reassuring for you.
During digital mammography:
- A highly trained clinician places your breast in the mammography unit.
- The breast is gradually compressed with a paddle.
- You will feel pressure on your breast. For women who have especially sensitive breasts, there may be some discomfort.
- The examination takes about 15 minutes.
After the test, a radiologist, a physician who is trained to supervise and interpret these examinations, will analyze the results and send a report to your primary care doctor or to the referring physician, who will discuss the results with you.
