Taking care of others is routine for the caregivers at Mercy Health – Lourdes Hospital. However, even the most seasoned health care professionals need a break from the burden of responsibility they carry.

Mercy Health Foundation – Paducah’s women’s philanthropy group, Impact Lourdes, recognized this and selected the creation of three recharge and renew rooms as its 2021 funding project. The first room, located near the emergency department, is complete, and the women of Impact Lourdes toured the beautiful space on Wednesday, Nov. 9.

“Providing rooms for our Mercy Health staff to find relief from their very stressful jobs as health care workers made IMPACT Lourdes members feel like we were making a tangible, real difference and there is no better feeling in the world,” said Lori Meredith, IMPACT Lourdes member.

The recharge and renew rooms are dedicated spaces for destressing and resetting and they are available to all employees. The first room features stunning “view” wallpaper, a comfortable recliner, dim lighting, aromatherapy, soft music, journals and informational boards featuring details on how to contact support resources.

“The recharge and renew room is a calming space where staff can take a few moments to decompress, relax, recharge and gather their thoughts after a stressful event so they can continue to provide the best care to our patients,” said Becky Inman, emergency department nurse manager. “The emergency department staff is grateful to Impact Lourdes’ members for recognizing the importance of their emotional well-being while at work. This room has already proven to be beneficial and will continue to provide emotional support to Lourdes Hospital employees for years to come.”

Lourdes Hospital will open another two recharge and renew rooms on the fourth and fifth floors of the hospital so that as many employees as possible have easy access to the spaces.

“Thank you to each of our Impact Lourdes members for supporting this project. Our health care heroes appreciate a space to take a few moments to relax and recharge, especially on highly stressful days,” said Jessica Toren, president of Mercy Health Foundation – Lourdes. “We are so grateful to Impact Lourdes for its continued support of Lourdes Hospital.”
