Mercy Health – Springfield announced today that Shane Hardy has been named the new chief operations officer for its medical group, effective Jan. 30.

Shane is not a new face to the ministry, having joined Bon Secours Mercy Health in 2010 as director of financial planning for the Cincinnati market. After successfully leading the financial team in budgeting, forecasting and long-term planning, he progressed to a position as chief financial officer for Mercy Health’s HealthSpan insurance organization.

In 2014, Shane became the chief financial officer for Mercy Health Partners, serving both the Cincinnati and Springfield markets for the past eight years. During that time Shane has been a trusted advisor and communicator to more than 500 providers, both developing and achieving budget targets.

Prior to joining Bon Secours Mercy Health, Shane was the director of financial analysis and decision support at UC Health in Cincinnati. He began his career with United HealthCare where he served in roles of progressing financial leadership. Shane holds his bachelor’s in business administration and mathematics from Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio, and his master’s in business administration and finance from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.

“Shane is an experienced medical group CFO and managed care finance and operations leader. We look forward to his expertise in financial operations, relationship building and provider networks as an asset in our market,” said Adam Groshans, Mercy Health – Springfield market president. “We also look forward to Shane’s strong ties to our community given his years of oversight as chief financial officer, growing up in this area and attending local colleges.”

Shane and his wife, Lisa, live in the greater Dayton area with their two sons, Andrew and Joseph, as well as their dog, Luna.

Shane’s new position as chief operations officer for the Mercy Health – Springfield medical group was previously held by Tyler Walters, who has transitioned to a new role as chief operations officer at the ministry’s West Hospital in Cincinnati.
