Mercy Health is grateful for years of community support that has resulted in thousands of dollars in funding for prostate cancer awareness.
On behalf of the Mercy Health – Tiffin Foundation, Andrew Morgan, president, Mercy Health – Tiffin and Willard Hospitals, recently accepted a $10,000 grant from The Prostate Cancer Awareness Fund of the Tiffin Community Foundation. The funds were raised at the foundation’s 16th annual golf outing fundraiser, which took place at Clinton Heights Golf Course with the largest participation ever – 34 teams and 134 golfers – as well as the support of many organizations and individuals.
This most recent contribution elevates the total support from the Prostate Cancer Awareness Fund to $82,500 – all dedicated to community outreach efforts to educate men and their families about the early detection of prostate cancer and men’s health in general.
The collaboration between the Prostate Cancer Awareness Fund, Mercy Health – Tiffin Foundation and Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital has resulted in providing education and awareness to many area residents. Awareness campaigns have occurred with area sports teams and Billboard placements have also been a part of the awareness campaign along with numerous special events.
“We appreciate the opportunity to work with the Reser family and the Prostate Cancer Awareness Fund,” said Jana Martin, director of Community Relations. “Awareness of family history and symptoms, as well as early detection, are very important. We continue to look for new opportunities to educate.”
While the focus remains on prostate cancer awareness, committee members have expanded educational opportunities and awareness campaigns to include general men’s health initiatives. Roy Hall, Jr., former wide receiver for The Ohio State University and Indianapolis Colts, was a featured speaker at a dinner event held this past March and provided a phenomenal and motivational call to action for men to take control of their health.
Additionally, with an interest in providing support for men’s health awareness in the community, the hospital would like to begin a monthly support program. Future events are currently being planned to continue the awareness outreach to the community.
