Mammography services at Mercy Health — Tiffin Hospital and Mercy Health —  Perrysburg Hospital have been suspended following a determination by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).  Specifically, the American College of Radiology (ACR), which provides mammography accreditation on behalf of the FDA, recently performed a review at each facility. Each process involved a review of mammogram images from a random sample of patients who received a mammogram at that facility over a defined period. After its review, the ACR reported that some of the images in that random sample did not meet their clinical quality standards.

If you are an identified patient who received your most recent mammogram at Tiffin or Perrysburg Hospitals in the past 26 months, it is likely that you have already received an information letter from that facility.  If you receive such a letter, this does not necessarily mean that the mammogram results received by you and your provider were wrong.  The letter explains why you are receiving it, what options are available to you, and who you can contact if you (or your provider) have questions.

In the meantime, all patients – including those who received an information letter – can continue their mammography care at any of our many other Mercy Health mammography locations across the greater Northwest Ohio area, all of which continue to be accredited by the ACR and certified under the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA).  A list of those locations is available in the FAQs.

As we complete all identified patient and provider notifications, we have established a devoted call line (419-455-7040) and email assistive service (MammographyCallCenter@mercy.com) to address patient and provider questions.  We understand the urgency of your questions.  To help us serve you efficiently, we kindly request that you leave only one message. Our local clinical staff will return your call or respond to your email promptly.

Mercy Health takes this matter very seriously and understands the significance of this news. We are fully cooperating with our partners to address their concerns, and both Mercy Health —  Tiffin Hospital and Mercy Health — Perrysburg Hospital have already taken many of the steps towards revitalizing and enhancing their services so that they can return to providing high-quality mammography in the future.

As we act with purpose and intention to rectify this matter, we are determined to ensure our response reflects our ministry’s Mission, Vision and Values. Your health and well-being are our top priority, and we commit to supporting you.
