Food and medication

  • Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your procedure
  • Take all of your usual medication in the morning with a sip of water. If you are on any blood thinners (Coumadin, Xarelto, Aspirin, Lovenox, etc.) you may continue to take these. There is no need to stop taking this type of medication for your procedure
  • If you need pain medication the night before or the morning of your procedure, you may take it with a sip of water
  • Bring a current list of all of your medications with you


  • Do not wear any makeup
  • Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing
  • Do not wear jewelry, belts or clothing that contain metal

Arrival and parking

  • Arrive at 6 a.m. for registration in the Gamma Knife office
  • You must be accompanied by a caregiver who will be responsible for taking you home after the procedure. You may be accompanied by one guest or visitor in addition to your caregiver
  • Reserved Gamma Knife patient/caregiver parking is available on the P1 lower level of the parking garage
  • Any other guest or visitor should park in one of the unreserved parking spots available throughout the garage
