To most effectively treat the disease, our team of trusted medical oncologists/hematologists work in close collaboration with our radiation oncologists to carefully review each patient’s needs to develop a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan, which may include one or more of the following:
CHEMOTHERAPY: This treatment may be used to:
- Destroy cancer cells
- Stop cancer cells from spreading
- Slow the growth of cancer cells
HORMONAL THERAPY: This treatment is used to slow or stop the growth of certain cancers such as prostate and breast cancer. Synthetic hormones or other drugs may be given to block the body’s natural hormones.
BIOLOGICAL THERAPY: A type of treatment that works with your immune system to:
- Stop or slow the growth of cancer cells
- Help your immune system to destroy, or get rid of, cancer cells
- Keep cancer from spreading to other parts of your body (metastasis)
TARGETED THERAPY: This treatment includes the use of drugs or other substances that block the growth and spread of cancer by interfering with specific molecules involved in the growth and progression of certain tumors.
These treatments are often used in combination with surgery and/or radiation therapy along with other supportive treatments.
Our goal is to find better ways to treat cancer and to help those with cancer feel better. Whatever the condition may be, we look at the whole person to fully understand their needs in body, mind and spirit.
