St. Rita’s Pharmacy helps patients Get Smart About Antibiotics

(Lima, November 11, 2016) Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Get Smart About Antibiotics Week is November 14-20. To help build awareness about appropriate antibiotics usage, St. Rita’s pharmacy team has been conducting research through antimicrobial stewardship. Antimicrobial Stewardship is a program that supports the appropriate use of antimicrobials, which includes antibiotics.

"Through the antimicrobial stewardship program, we have been able to promote appropriate antibiotic use and help to reduce bacterial resistance." said Jessica Walles, clinical pharmacist at St. Rita’s. “What people don’t realize is that antibiotics only treat bacterial infections – not viruses.”

On Tuesday, November 15, at 1 p.m., Jessica will be available in our main lobby to talk more about our pharmacy’s findings through antimicrobial stewardship, and will also be educating patrons about appropriate antibiotic usage.
