Mercy Health is proud to announce that two of our emergency departments have been awarded the 2023 Press Ganey Human Experience Guardian of Excellence Award for Patient Satisfaction.

These awards honor the emergency departments at both Mercy Health – Perrysburg Hospital and Mercy Health – Sylvania Medical Center for reaching the 95th percentile for patient experience. Guardian of Excellence Awards are awarded annually to health care establishments who sustain performance in the top 5 percent based on one year of data.

This is the fourth time Mercy Health – Perrysburg Hospital was recognized and the second consecutive year for Mercy Health – Sylvania Medical Center.

“A visit to the emergency department can be stressful and life-changing. I am proud of the teams at both Sylvania and Perrysburg for continuing to provide excellent care in a caring and compassionate environment,” said Dr. Christopher Goliver, who has oversight over both facilities. “The safety and satisfaction of our patients is at the core of the care we provide, and I’m thrilled that once again our providers and staff have been recognized for their amazing work.”

Mercy Health opened the region’s first free-standing emergency department in Perrysburg in 2013, and has since grown the campus to include a comprehensive cancer center and a full-service hospital, including a newly built cardiac catheterization lab. In 2015, the Mercy Health – Sylvania Medical Center was opened at the corner of Central Avenue and King Road to offer better access to top-quality care to residents in Sylvania, Sylvania Township and beyond.

Both emergency departments are regularly recognized for maintaining a high priority on providing an exceptional patient experience.

“I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to our exceptional care team. Every day they place the patient’s needs and experience at the heart of the care they provide.” said Andrea Gwyn, president of Mercy Health – St. Anne Hospital and Sylvania Medical Center. We deeply value the trust that our patients place in our team during their most vulnerable moments, and we are honored to receive national recognition for the profound impact our team has made.”

“This achievement is particularly notable as the team at Mercy Health – Perrysburg Hospital emergency department have treated an influx of patients in these past months and have done so with a continued commitment to quality and compassion,” added Alison Avendt, president of Mercy Health – Perrysburg Hospital.  “Mercy Health is proud to be the health care provider to the Perrysburg, Maumee, Waterville area and we are grateful to our providers for the amazing work they do every day.”
