Rotation Schedule

Fellows will spend 50 percent of their time in clinical practice. Percent of independent clinical practices is determined by the format of the fellowship – 12 months or 24 months. This practice is outside the scope of the HALM fellowship, as the fellows are already fully trained in their respective clinical specialties.

Didactic Curriculum

The fellowship program provides a comprehensive education in health care systems, operations, leadership and business sciences through a flipped classroom model, combining self-directed learning with active participation in hospital committees and quality initiatives. Fellows will gain hands-on experience in patient safety, quality improvement, workforce development, health care management and financial planning, applying their knowledge in practical settings.

The curriculum covers key areas such as health care disparities, health equity, information technology, policy and strategic planning, with fellows actively engaging in relevant committees and initiatives. This approach ensures that fellows develop strong leadership, management and problem-solving skills within the health care environment.

Research and Scholarly Activity

The Health Care Administration, Leadership and Management Fellowship Program has set forth clear expectations for capstone and scholarly activity requirements, as outlined below, which not only meet the minimum requirement provided by the ACGME but will set graduates up for success in future practice.

Fellows will be provided with a variety of options based on current hospital needs for their capstone project, though they are welcome to pursue a capstone project that is not on the list, providing they obtain the approval of their program director. Fellows will also be offered opportunities to participate in additional scholarly activities that extend beyond their capstone project should they be interested. Assistance with project selection is available through the program’s leadership and executive team. Fellows have access to the academic research coordinator, a biostatistician, a librarian and repository of resources to assist in any activities.
